The Red White and Blue Gala is now history and we are overjoyed to find that all our attendees did their level best to make it the most successful fundraiser we have ever had.
Thanks go to all our donations, volunteers, entertainment, and bidders we achieved our goal and went way over the top. In this slow economy this is a testament to the kind hearts and generous people of Volusia and Flagler Counties. Love and blessings to each and all. Extra special recognition goes to Sammie Wiggins for her expert planning and presentation of the Gala and Terry Bailey and Janet Dixon who put their hearts and souls into making it a success.

Thanks to all the folks who donated auction items, and the contributions of the board of directors, the 2011 Red White and Blue Gala was the most successful we have ever produced.

If you did you must be expecting a really big evening of fun and entertainment. If you did not reserve your table then you will have to wait for next year.

All tables are sold and there are just a few individual tickets left for last minute emergencies. To hear Dustin he will be at Pitmasters BBQ, north DeLand, tonight from 8 pm-midnight.
Dustin has a huge following and has packed the Blues House several times.

I just wanted to let everyone know, as of last evening, I have secured Dustin Seymour
as our entertainment for the Gala evening. Dustin is a local attraction, who sings Country
and plays guitar. We will have back up music with North Avenue Studios.

This is exciting to "liven up" the evening.

To hear Dustin he will be at Pitmasters BBQ, north DeLand, tonight from 8 pm-midnight.

I have some very exciting news about some fabulous donations we have received for our Silent Auction for the "Red White and Blue Gala" for the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

The Dale Jr. Foundation has generously donated the autographed hood from his No. 88 AMP sponsored Cup Car, plus other signed memorabilia. Michael Waltrip Racing has donated a autographed quarter panel from the David Reutimann race car, a autographed team uniform shirt, and hat signed by X Games Star Travis Pastrana from Waltrip/Pastrana Racing.

Please tell you Nascar friends we will be auctioning these items at the Children's Cancer Foundation Gala on October 1, 2011 at the Daytona 500 Club. We still have tickets available for this wonderful event, remember all donations raised stay in Volusia County to help the families who have a child with cancer. All donations are tax deductible.

Jack Becker, the director of MainStreet DeLand Association has taken the position of president of the Childhood Cancer Foundation, Inc. After five years at the helm the previous president, Sammie Wiggins, has stepped down and assumed other roles in the organization. The working board and new officers were installed at a reception, that included supporters and donors, at the Museum of Women's Art on the corner of New York Avenue and Woodland Boulevard in DeLand. Refreshments and beverages were served and musical background was provided by Jeff Shepherd.

Sammie is working on the upcoming Red, White and Blue Gala on October 1. The affair will again be held at the popular Speedway 500 Experience in Daytona. Don Hill, Founder of CCF still maintains the the role of roving ambassador and administrator.

Most of the kids and families we serve are already suffering from the down economy and they need us more than ever. It is not unusual for one or both parents to have to quit their job to care for a child with cancer who is undergoing treatment. Many of our kids parents don't have cars ... or money for gas and tires if they do have cars. It is unfortunate that we find many utilities are shut off because of the drain of funds for cancer treatments and some families are left in the cold, or have no refrigeration for food. We do all we can to meet their needs, but we have a limit for each child. When that limit is reached we don't give up. We have a meeting and figure other ways to provide the help our kids and their families need. We contact other services and help educate our families on what options are open to them.

One of those ways is to call on our Guardian Angels. Dr. Steve Hayman has had wonderful success in asking those who have a philanthropic heart to provide emergency funding for individual patients. This could include wheelchairs, medical supplies, transportation, computers, travel expenses, housing expenses and even sadly final arrangements for those who have lost their battle with the disease. May we take time to mention that we have had tremendous support from funeral homes in the area who have helped us lay to rest more kids than usual in 2010 and 2011 so far. This is the heartbreaking result in some of our tragic cases.

We cannot operate without the monetary support of our donors. There are several ways you can donate to CCF. Look in our pages section and on our website www.childrenscancerfoundationinc.org to see how you can be part of our program. We never turn away a donation of any size.

Right now we are in need of items to give away as door prizes at the RWB Gala and items to auction off that night too. It is very important that we are able to show those in attendance how much they mean to us. Call Jack, Sammie or Janet if you want to donate. Some suggestions might be, weekend packages, bicycles, books, jewelry, wine, baskets, electronic gadgets, crystal, sculpture, art work, designer handbags, iPads or Kindles, tutoring, classes, trips, household items and more. Think about it! We need your help.

CCF WELCOMES THREE NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Dwight Lewis
Director

Dwight’s life’s work and a deep sense of responsibility to his community began long before his first election to public office. Dwight is a hard worker who often had two jobs at a time during his youth. He always made time to help in his community and after becoming a successful businessman he ran for public office and served the people of Volusia County for several years.

If that sounds like a stump speech, consider this ...Dwight, at age 26, had distinguished himself as Texaco’s top salesman in the entire United States and held the promise of a lucrative marketing career with the corporate giant. He was living in Miami then but wanted only to find a way to return to Volusia County and build a life here. If that life offered fewer riches, he believed it would be more enriching for the opportunities it would afford him to lead and serve the community he loved. He came home, bought a local fuel business and built it into a multi-million dollar company.

Once back home, he led the startup of a PTA at Mainland Junior High School. He coached in a youth football league for 10 years and served as president of the South Daytona Little League. As he built his business, his interests expanded to service through the DeLand Rotary, the DeLand Chamber of Commerce and as an officer on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia and Flagler Counties.

He and his wife, Lisa, are active members of Stetson Baptist Church. He raised a family, volunteered and led wherever he could help, from school PTAs to youth sports leagues to county governing boards, and continues now in retirement to help make life better for other families in Volusia County. It is not without reason that the county earlier in this decade presented him with a hat bearing the title “Community Helper #1.”

Dwight served on the Volusia County Council for 8 years, then he retired because of term limits. He is a graduate of Florida State University and was a math and physical education teacher for two years. He has also coached football and track. Dwight has a sad memory of losing a niece to childhood cancer and wants to lead Children’s Cancer Foundation, Inc. into a future of service to other kids.

Terry Bailey
Director

Terry is one of the premier realtors in West Volusia county. She doesn’t understand the word “downturn” and continues to list and sell properties to the satisfaction of her clients.

Terry has a reputation as a generous community servant and has been donating to CCF in many ways over the years. She was recommended to our board for her many efforts to help children with cancer, and was unanimously accepted immediately.

“I have lived in Volusia County for 40 years, I am a Realtor with Total Realty in DeLand. I have been in the Real Estate business twelve years and love my job. The best part of selling Real Estate is the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I believe in Old Fashion Service 7 days a week.”

“I am married to Dave Tryba and I have two children and two grandchildren. I have been involved with the Children's Cancer Foundation, Inc. since it was started. “I truly believe that because I have been so blessed with healthy children and grandchildren I should give back at every opportunity.”

Having already attended her first board meeting, Terry is anxious to get started helping improve and energize the CCF program. Because she is so dynamic in the business-world we expect her defiance of negativity to inspire us to grow. Quin Booth
Director

Quin Booth is one of the organizers of The Defending Freedom Wounded Warrior Weekend and is, of course, a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Quin Booth is a graduate of Florida International University with a degree in Physical Education K-12. He has over twenty-one years of teaching, coaching, and mentoring youth. He served five years as a community board member for the American Heart Association in South Florida as a Jump Rope for Heart coordinator, Heart on the Hill delegate, and Logistics Chairman for Heart Walk Miami. Concurrently he served as the chairman of the Junior Orange Bowl International Festival 5K Run.

Upon moving to DeLand four years ago Quin has been instrumental in development of the Defending Freedom Warrior Weekend benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. His business Quin’s Kayaks
He feels it is important share your talents and be active in the community. As a father of two boys and two time cancer survivor himself Quin understands what it is to be a part of such a worthwhile organization as the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

“Last year, we donated $20,000 to Wounded Warriors.,” Booth said.He is enthusiastic in expanding the scope of the program every year. He is a staunch fighter against cancer, having had to fight the disease more than once himself. Quin is the son of PGA professional Robert Booth and nephew of parachute manufacturer and inventor Bill Booth
